Description
Great Maxfield is an L-shaped timber-framed house, with the north-south wing dating from the 15th century. This wing features close studding and a large sandstone ashlar chimney breast from the late 14th century on the west wall, topped with two octagonal shafts. The first floor overhangs at the north end, supported by a moulded bressummer and brackets, and there is a similarly overhanging gable above, which has fretted bargeboards and an attic window. On the first floor, there is an oriel window with a cove above and below it. The roof is slate. The east wing is a late 16th-century addition, characterized by squares of plaster infilling and a tiled roof. The entire building has casement windows with small square leaded panes. It is two storeys high and has four windows. At the time of the resurvey, the building was empty and disused.
