Description

This house, built in 1935, is located on the north side of South Cliff in Bexhill. Designed by J E Maynard ARIBA and constructed by R A Larkin and C Baker, it exemplifies the International Modern Movement style, featuring brick construction with a rendered finish and a flat roof. The house is two stories high, with a sun room added to maximize sea views; this sun room has extensive glazing facing the sea. The front elevation has four metal-framed casement windows on the first floor, and two doors and two windows on the ground floor. A metal railing runs along the roof, and a first-floor balcony, supported by plain concrete columns, extends from three first-floor windows, featuring a glazed porch. A recessed garage is situated on the left side, with horizontally-glazed doors. The rear elevation includes four windows and French windows with sidelights, overlooking the garden. The interior retains original features, including a solid balustrade staircase, flush doors, an original electric fitting, and original kitchen cabinets. While some light fittings and electric fires have been replaced, they are done in a style sympathetic to the original design.
