Description
The seafront shelter on De La Warr Parade was built in 1896, with the roof re-tiled in the 1930s. This wooden structure sits on a concrete plinth and features a tiled roof. The plan is an elongated decahedron, with the entrance located on the south or seaward side.
The exterior showcases a hipped roof with overhanging eaves, adorned with a scalloped valance and supported by scalloped brackets featuring circular cutouts. The walls consist of chamfered piers and top panels with curved sides above vertical boards, which include small trefoil-shaped cutouts. Most wall panels have ornamental curved brackets and central piers, which were later glazed over, along with solid lower panels, except for the two central panels on the seaward side.
Inside, the shelter has a boarded wooden ceiling with carved ribs that incorporate two moulded circular pendants. The lower wall panels are fielded.
