Description
Rectory Cottage and Rosemullion Cottage are a pair of semi-detached cottages that were converted from a terrace of three cottages. The first cottage was built between 1730 and 1760, with later 18th-century alterations and an addition to the east that created the three cottages, which are now two. The cottages feature a timber frame with brick, 19th-century render, and a plain tile roof. There are two flush gable end rendered brick stacks and one brick ridge stack. The buildings are two storeys high.
The external timber-framed walls of the first cottage have been rebuilt in brick, but the stud and braced cross partition between its two bay hall and service bay, as well as the upper part of the wall separating the rear lean-to and the upper part of the east gable, remain intact. The central cottage, formed in the service bay with entry from the rear, is now divided and incorporated into the present pair of cottages. The front has three windows, with the ground floor featuring windows alternating with two entrance doorways, all having segmental arched heads. There are two 19th-century projecting gabled porches, and both floors have three-light casements with glazing bars.
Inside, Rectory Cottage retains a mid-18th-century inglenook fireplace with a timber lintel and a chamfered bridging beam with moulded cyma stops. There are later 18th-century inglenook fireplaces in the centre and against the east gable wall of Rosemullion Cottage. The roof has paired rafters with necked collars.
