Description
Holloway House, located at 24 High Street, is a building with a front that dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, while the garden elevation is from the late 17th century. According to the Victoria County History, the interior indicates that it was originally a timber-framed house from the 16th century, and it has 13th-century vaulted cellars beneath. The front elevation features two storeys and an attic, with four windows and two dormers, constructed of yellow brick with a parapet. The glazing bars are intact, and there is a porch with Doric columns and a wooden entablature, along with a rectangular fanlight and a six-panel moulded door. Inside, there are five stone Tudor fireplaces and Elizabethan panelling. The garden elevation has three storeys, with a ground floor window that includes a late 17th-century transom and mullions, as well as leaded casements. The first floor has one double sash window and one sash window with margin lights, while the second floor features sash windows. The ground floor is made of red brick, and the upper floors are tile hung. All windows retain their original glazing bars. Holloway House is part of a group with Nos 21 to 27.
