Description
Manor Cottages, now divided into five dwellings, is an exceptionally fine timber-framed building of Kentish quality, dating to the 15th century with a 17th-century addition. The house is arranged in a T-shape. The central projection and the north wing are constructed using close-studded timber framing. The central projection features a first floor which oversails on a moulded bressummer and brackets. A two-tier oriel window containing six lights, with splayed end lights, sits above the projection. The window has wooden mullions and a transom, diamond-shaped and square leaded panels, and the date 1611 is inscribed above it. Flanking the oriel are two small original fixed windows with old green glass. A gable oversails the projection, supported by a carved bressummer, with an attic window set into it, also containing old green glass. The north wing includes a bay on both floors, accentuated by ornamental timbering between the storeys and a small gable with carved bargeboards and a pendant. A south wing, added in the 16th century, is partially tile-hung on its first floor, while the ground floor of its south wall has been rebuilt in red brick. The roof is tiled. The casement windows have diamond-shaped or small square leaded panes. The building has two storeys and six windows.
