Description
Theobalds is a Grade II* listed building located on Theobalds Road in Wivelsfield, Burgess Hill. It was the home of the Attree family from the 16th century until 1823. The oldest part of the building is the back wing, which dates from the 17th century or earlier. This section features red brick with alternating grey headers and a Horsham slab roof, along with casement windows.
The 18th-century front wing was added later and is faced with black mathematical tiles, complemented by quoins of red brick or tiles. It has a tiled roof and sash windows with intact glazing bars. The front wing also includes a round-headed doorway from the 18th century, which has a flat hood supported by brackets and a semi-circular fanlight with pointed divisions. The door itself is older and bears the date 1627 in studs. The building is two storeys tall and has five windows.
