Description

Woodcote Cottage is a cottage dating to around 1800, believed to have been originally constructed as a coachman's dwelling. It is built of stone rubble with a slate roof and a tall brick chimney stack at one end. The cottage is two storeys high and has two windows. The ground floor windows are casements featuring built-in keystones. A wooden, pedimented porch with chamfered piers leads to a four-panelled door; a rear door has two panels. The interior includes two alcoves and plank doors leading to the first floor. This is the sole surviving estate cottage from the period when Hamstead Grange was owned by Capability Brown.
