Description

The Kew War Memorial stands prominently on the corner of Kew Green, next to the Church of St Anne and adjacent to Kew Road, which runs for approximately 350 metres from the River Thames. This memorial, built in the 20th century, is approximately 5 metres high and constructed of Portland stone. It features a cross set upon an octagonal shaft, which tapers downwards, and rests on an octagonal plinth with a two-stepped base. A bronze plaque affixed to the south-facing plinth bears the inscription "THEIR NAME LIVETH/ FOR/ EVERMORE/ THE NAMES OF THE MEN/ OF THIS PARISH WHO DIED FOR/ THEIR COUNTRY IN THE TWO WARS/1914-1918 AND 1939-1945/ ARE INSCRIBED IN THE ADJACENT/ CHURCH OF ST ANNE/ THIS IS THE MEMORIAL OF THEIR/ HONOUR AND OF THE GRATITUDE/ OF THE PEOPLE OF KEW." The remaining faces of the plinth are plain. The names of those who died are recorded on the Lady Chapel Screen within the Church of St Anne. The modern railings surrounding the memorial are not part of the listed building.
