Description
Number 18 Station Road, formerly known as Milbourne House, is an early 18th-century building that features some earlier interior elements. The exterior is rough-cast over brick, with a mansarded attic covered in large graduated slates. The house has two storeys and is adorned with a decorated eaves cornice and sash windows. The central Georgian doorway has a plain surround, a decorated fanlight, a cornice, and a six-panel door. There are flat-topped casement dormers and a rear wing that shares a similar character. Inside, the house boasts a 17th-century staircase, balustrading, and an old chimney piece. The name of the house comes from the Milborne family, who held the Manor of Esher Wateville or Milborne in the 14th and 15th centuries, with one family member participating in the Battle of Agincourt. The house was also the home of the writer Henry Fielding around 1750.
