Description
This is a 1903 station building designed by William Burgess, constructed for the London Transport Executive. It is a classically styled, symmetrical structure located on the western platform at Barkingside Station. The building is one storey high and features a projecting central section flanked by long wings. It is constructed primarily of red brick with cream stone quoins and a granite plinth. The west elevation has a wide arched central entrance and windows with round arched heads containing double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The end projections feature tripartite windows with Doric columns and shallow swags positioned beneath. A small, domed cupola sits atop the central section. The station was associated with Dr Barnardo’s Village Home and was used by visiting royalty and other dignitaries.
