Description
The Church of St Helen and St Giles, dating from around 1170, is a remarkably complete and unaltered Norman church located in Rainham. It consists of a nave with aisles, a chancel, and a west tower. Later additions include clerestory windows from the 18th century. The chancel features a 15th-century crown-post roof with two bays. A unique aspect of this church is a medieval scratch-drawing of a ship located on the wall of the rood-loft staircase.
