Description
The Borough Council Health Office is a late 18th-century building located on Gentleman’s Row. It features a central block that is three storeys high with five windows, flanked by two-storey side wings that have two windows each. The structure is made of stock brick and has parapet fronts, with the central section topped by a modillion cornice. Above the central three bays is a pediment that contains a round window. The first floor has sash windows, with the central window framed by a stuccoed entablature and topped with a pediment, and a balustrade below. Access to the building is via three stone steps, which have side walls and wrought iron handrails, leading to a central six-panel door set within an Ionic doorcase. The fanlight above the door features interlaced bars. Additionally, there is a 19th-century projecting square bay that rises three storeys and covers the right-hand windows of the central section. The Borough Council Health Office is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 33 (odd), along with all mentioned walls and railings and The Coach House.
