Description

Ellern Mede, dating from around 1876-77, was designed by R. Norman Shaw. The house is constructed with a red brick ground storey and a tile-hung upper storey, with a projecting entrance wing featuring black and white timbering and a gable. It has an asymmetrical design, two storeys with a dormered attic, and multi-paned casement windows. The roof is tiled, and tall brick stacks rise through moulded caps. The interior is of particular interest, especially the staircase. Further details are documented on page 129 of 'R Norman Shaw' by A. Saint, and drawings for the house are held at the Royal Academy.
