TQ 3080 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER CRAVEN STREET, WC2 83/29 9.1.70 Nos. 33 and 34

Former pair of terraced town houses, as one since early to mid C.19. 1731, No. 33 built by Henry Flitcroft, with c.1792 and early C.19 alterations. Brown brick, channelled stucco facing to ground floor, red brick window dressings, slate roof. 4 storeys (the top floor a c.1792 heightening) and basement. 6 windows wide (3 each as built). Closet wing plan. Central square headed wide doorway with recessed, panelled double doors and side lights under moulded doorhead and fanlight. Recessed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged red brick arches. Shallow cornice-band finishing off ground floor stuccowork; parapet with coping, returned to Craven Passage where there are blind windows. Cast iron area railings, with spike finials. Interior retains some of original fielded panelling and one staircase with cut and carved strings and turned balusters, etc. Part of the Craven family's development of their Brewhouse estate, laid out by Flitcroft.
