Description

Nos. 13 and 14 Craven Street are a pair of terraced townhouses built between 1730 and 1731, with alterations made around 1792 to 1800. The houses are constructed of brown brick with red brick window dressings and have concealed slate roofs. They are four storeys tall, with the top floor converted into a full storey around 1800, and a mansard roof added to No. 13. Each house features three windows across and has a mirrored layout similar to Nos. 11 and 12, which also have closet wings.

The ground floor is finished with channelled stucco and includes adjoining elliptical arched doorways in plain stucco surrounds, featuring recessed panelled doors within corner-blocked architraves and fanlights. The windows are recessed plate glass sashes set beneath flat gauged red brick arches, with the central top floor window being blind. A shallow cornice moulding caps the ground floor stuccowork, and there is a parapet with coping. No. 13 boasts wrought iron bowed balconettes from around 1800, along with wrought iron area railings topped with urn finials.

Inside, No. 13 retains a panelled interior similar to Nos. 11 and 12, although only the original staircase balustrade remains on the upper flights. In No. 14, the panelling is preserved only in the passage hall and stairwell, with a staircase featuring cut and carved strings and grouped balusters, akin to those in Nos. 11 and 12. These houses are part of the 18th-century development of the Craven family's Brewhouse estate, designed by Flitcroft.
