Description

Commercial premises dating from the early 20th century, designed by Reid and Macdonald. The building is located on Buckingham Palace Road, with additional frontage on Eccleston Street. It is constructed of red brick with a red tiled pitched roof. The architecture is in a domestic revival style. The irregular facade consists of seven main bays and extends over five storeys with an attic. The central and end bays project slightly, featuring gables and rusticated quoins. The ground floor has been altered and now contains shops with stucco or painted stone surrounds and a cornice above. A central arched entrance and corner entrances are topped with a convex frieze and keystone. Three canted bay windows, corniced and rising through the first to third floors, are irregularly spaced. Segmental headed windows have flush frames, sash glazing bars, and carved brick ornamentation to the gables. A prominent off-centre stack rises from a canted blind projection mirroring the bay windows, located on the right-hand gable. Dormers have segmental pediments. Return elevations are present on both the right and left sides.
