Description

This is a row of eleven houses, numbered 36 to 43, located on the north side of Montpelier Square in London. Built in the early to mid-19th century, the houses are constructed of stock brick with the ground floor finished in channelled stucco. They are four storeys high, with a basement for most properties; numbers 39 to 41 have attic mansards. Each house is two windows wide.

The houses have arched entrances to the ground floor, with No. 38 having a square-headed entrance. They feature panelled doors. The ground floor windows of Nos 36, 40 and 41 are arched, while the remaining windows have mostly square heads, with Nos 36 to 38 having gauged heads, and the rest featuring stucco architraves. A continuous cast iron balcony runs along the first floor. The houses have a stucco cornice above the third floor, surmounted by a parapet. Original cast iron area railings are also present. Numbers 42 and 43 have undergone considerable alteration. These houses form part of a larger group encompassing the rest of Montpelier Square and demonstrate group value through their consistent design and contribution to the square's character.
