Description
This is a row of three houses located at 45, 46, and 47 Rutland Gate in the City of Westminster, dating from the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco with slate mansard roofs. They are four storeys high, with a basement and mansard attics, and each house has a facade three windows wide. The ground floor is characterized by channelled detailing. Each house features a projecting Doric porch. The windows are square-headed on the lower floors, with segmental heads on the third floor. The first-floor windows are grouped together beneath an entablature and flanked by Corinthian half columns. A continuous cast iron balcony runs along the first floor. The second-floor windows are corniced, with the centre window of each house being pedimented and containing balustraded windows. The windows are sash windows with plate glass. A dentil cornice runs along the top of the building, which is simplified on numbers 45 and 47. Cast iron area railings, of a neo-Grec design, are present. The row of houses forms part of a cohesive design with numbers 23-42 and 48-65 Rutland Gate.
