Description

A pair of very large town houses at 21 and 22 York Terrace East, NW1, built around 1821 to a design by John Nash. They are faithful reconstructions of the original facades following damage during World War II. The houses are constructed of channelled stucco with a slate roof and feature a Graeco-Roman Corinthian style. The design is four storeys high with a basement. There are 13 windows in total, with the central three bays and the bays to the penultimate bays projecting slightly. The ground floor windows are semicircular with plain glazing bar sashes, and those above are rectangular with glazing bars. A two-storey portico of attached Corinthian columns sits centrally, and there are pediments above the first-floor windows of the projecting bays. The building features a principal modillion cornice over the second floor, an attic cornice, and a blocking course. The facades are listed for their quality as a facsimile.
