Description
The Cadiz Memorial is a memorial located in Horse Guards Parade, City of Westminster, dating from 1814. It was cast by the Carriage Department at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, although it is not signed. The memorial features a striking and exotic design that includes a genuine French mortar mounted on a dramatic Chinese dragon. This is set on a "rustic" cast pedestal that has inscription panels and the Prince of Wales feather. It was erected to commemorate the lifting of the French siege of Cadiz following Wellington's victory at Salamanca.
