Description

'Three Standing Figures' is a sculpture created in 1948 by Henry Moore, made from Darley Dale Stone and set on a low stone plinth. The site for the sculpture was chosen by Moore in 1950. It was first exhibited at the London County Council's inaugural Open-Air Sculpture Exhibition in Battersea Park in 1948 and was later presented to the Council by the Contemporary Art Society. The figures are described as "disturbing" and represent a blend of abstract and organic forms, embodying what Moore referred to as "the group feeling" found in his Shelter drawings, as noted by Philip James in his 1966 work, "Henry Moore on Sculpture."
