Description
The Chalice Foundation is a Non-conformist church built in 1871, designed by R Church. The building is constructed of yellow brick on the facade, featuring red and white brick and stone dressings, with a slate roof that has a parapet. The entrance facade consists of three bays beneath a pediment, with paired central entrances located beneath gables and round-headed arches that have shafted jambs. Above the entrance is a rose window set in a round-headed arch. To the right and left are round arched windows, each with two lights, cuspless bar tracing, and a broad transom partway up. The pediment features a traceried oculus. Pilaster strips rise between the bays to a projecting cornice, and there are round-headed windows along the body of the church, positioned between the pilaster strips. Inside, there is a west gallery and a wide arched recess on the wall opposite the entrance, flanked by arches and featuring a coved ceiling. The interior includes a tile mosaic, likely by Doultons, although some furnishings have been removed to accommodate community use.
