Description

Hibbert's Almshouses are a two-story, eight-window range of cottages built in 1859. Constructed of red brick with stone dressings, the building exhibits symmetrical design. It features a coved eaves cornice and a slate roof with tall ridge stacks. The first-floor windows are set beneath gables that break the eaves, each with stone copings, kneelers, and a taller central gable over two windows; a foundation plaque is set beneath a crocketed, half-conical hood. The windows are double-hung and have stone surrounds with relieving arches - pointed on the first floor and Tudor-style below. Similar treatment is applied to the filleted plank doors, which are fitted with fancy strap hinges. A one-bay right extension incorporates a gateway. Small, paired outhouses are located at the rear.
