Description
St Jude and St Paul's Church of England Junior, Mixed and Infants School is a school built in 1855 by Alexander Dick Gough. It is constructed from Kentish ragstone in random rubble with Bath stone dressings and has a roof made of Welsh slate. The building is single-storey and L-shaped in plan, with the southern end of the west wing featuring a lower roof.
All the windows are Tudor-arched, and those on the south front have hoodmoulds with ball-flower label-stops. The west range has three windows and two entrances, one of which has been altered. The main, north range consists of two classroom blocks, each with a four-window range, and a projecting central wing that features a pointed-arched entrance and a stepped four-light window. There is also a smaller porch at the east end. The building has stacks that have been cut short on the west and north wings, and the eaves are corbelled.
The rear elevations facing Queen Margaret's Grove include four two-light windows on the east block and three three-light windows on the west block, along with a stepped four-light window in the gabled end of the west range.
