Description
This is a detached house built in 1856, developed by Henry Rydon and designed by Charles Hambridge. The exterior is faced with stucco and covered in brick, featuring an artificial slate roof. It is three storeys high, including a basement, and has a four-window front, with the main front displaying just two windows and a recessed entrance wing to the left. Steps lead to a flat-arched entrance with a cornice and overlight. The entrance and the adjacent ground-floor window are flanked by Ionic pilasters, supporting a panelled frieze and cornice. The ground floor of the main front is decorated with banded rustication and has two flat-arched windows with moulded reveals. A storey band is present, above which the first-floor window is flat-arched with moulded stucco architraves, a cornice, and a key pattern to the apron. A band of palmette ornament is inset above the first-floor windows. The first floor of the entrance wing has two small flat-arched windows and is likely a later addition. The second-floor windows are only on the sides, below the eaves. The roof is hipped, with side stacks, and features a dentil eaves cornice. The house is comparable to number 51 Highbury New Park.
