Description

This is a detached house built in 1856 as part of the Highbury New Park development, designed by Charles Hambridge and developed by Henry Rydon. It is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with red brick dressings, stucco, and potentially stone. The roof is covered in artificial slate.

The house is three storeys high, with a basement, and has a three-window front. A round-arched entrance is set within a recessed single-storey wing on the left-hand side, featuring a cornice, an overlight, and original panelled doors. A further recessed single-storey wing, with a one-window range, is adjacent to the porch, both featuring cast iron window guards. The ground floor of the main front uses yellow and red brick arranged in bands of three courses, up to an impost band of bricks set at an angle. It features round-arched windows with red and yellow brick detailing. A bracketed bay window on the first floor contains three round-arched windows with gauged red brick, corbelled out on imposts. Bands of encaustic tiles are positioned above and below the windows. The second floor windows are round-arched with heads of gauged red brick, with a shallow gable above the central window; the eaves are carried on a Lombard frieze, broken by windows and side stacks. The building has a cornice of bricks set at an angle and a hipped roof.

Attached to the property are two stuccoed, panelled gate piers with cornices, and a balustraded wall. The design of this house is closely matched to No.47 Highbury New Park.
