Description
Four gate piers to Middle Temple Lane were built in the late 19th century. They consist of four tall Portland stone piers featuring grouped flat pilasters adorned with incised stylized floral motifs. Each pier has angle shafts resting on acanthus leaf bases and is topped with cast iron vases. The gates are made of spiked iron and display the 'agnus dei' motif, which is the badge of Middle Temple, set within roundels. There are two single outer gates and a central set of double gates.
