Description

This is a row of six terraced houses with later shops, built around 1700 and substantially altered between 1855 and 1864 by William Finch Hill. The front facade is stuccoed, with a rusticated ground floor and prominent pilaster strips that separate each house and run along the corners. The design is in a modified French Renaissance style. The houses are arranged over four storeys, with two windows visible on each floor. The ground floor entrances are mostly altered, along with the windows, which have been updated in the 20th century. A decorative cornice with a recessed panelled sill band runs above the first floor. The first-floor windows are architraved sashes with four panes, each framed by console brackets. The second and third floors also have architraved sashes, the third floor windows being distinguished by sunken panels in between. A dentil cornice projects forward over the pilasters, and the building is topped by a balustraded parapet. The interiors have not been inspected.
