Description
The Old Schoolhouse is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered building located on North Street in Hundon. It is likely the school mentioned in records from 1737, where James Vernon contributed £10 annually to educate 16 poor children. The structure has two storeys and attics, featuring a five-window range with two and three-light casements that have leaded lights. The first storey has mullioned windows, while the ground storey includes both mullioned and transomed windows. A central six-panel door is framed by a wood doorcase with a moulded architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a pediment, with steps leading up to it. The roof is tiled. The Old Schoolhouse is part of a group that includes the Hundon Post Office and Stores, The Rose and Crown Inn, Flint Cottage, Lyndale, and Nos 1 to 3 Church Street, along with the Church of All Saints.
