Description
Mill Hill House is a house dating from the early 16th century. It has two storeys and is constructed from timber framing that is rendered. The west gable end jetties at the first floor, showcasing exposed close-studding and tension-braces. The roof is pantiled and features axial chimneys made of red brick. The house includes 19th and 20th century casement windows, some of which have small panes. The entrance door has four panels and is sheltered by a modern porch with a gabled roof covered in slate. Inside, there is good close-studded framing visible. The parlour contains ungazed diamond-mullioned windows with arched heads for each light, along with a doorway that has a four-centred head. There is also an original plank-and-muntin screen that appears to separate the hall from a service room, which is a rare feature in Suffolk. A small staircase wing was added around 1600, featuring an ovolo-moulded mullioned window. Additionally, a further cell was added at the east end in the 18th century, and the main roof was rebuilt at a lower pitch.
