Description

The Church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building located in Stansfield. It is a church constructed from stone and flint, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. The 14th-century west tower features a castellated parapet, angle buttresses, and a square staircase turret on the south-west corner, along with diagonal buttresses. The base of the tower includes some grouped flint and stone chequer work. The nave, built in the 15th century, has a parapet, and its roof features early 16th-century arched braced cambered tie-beams with carved spandrels, one depicting a maid in a castle with a dragon. The chancel, dating from the 14th century, has crocketted niches flanking the east window and a tiled roof. The castellated south porch is from the 15th century. On the north side, there is an octagonal staircase turret that leads to the former rood loft and the roof. The framing of the ringing chamber in the west tower is notable for its carved spandrels. Inside, there is a mutilated 15th-century square font adorned with shields in quatrefoils and arcaded panels, though the supports are modern. The pulpit is octagonal and from the 15th century, featuring carved panels. There is also a fragment of a 15th-century screen with cusped tracery. The church contains mural tablets commemorating Robert Plume of Hawkendon Hall and Robert Keddington and his wife Frances, who died in 1715.
