Description

Pear Tree Farm House is a house that was later divided into two or more dwellings. It dates from the late 16th century and was extended and reroofed in the 19th century, with further alterations and extensions in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is plastered, with a steeply pitched machine pantiled roof. It has a three-cell cross passage plan, which was extended by one bay to the left, at the parlour end. The house is one storey with an attic.

The entrance is located in the original cross passage position and consists of a half-glazed door set in a gabled porch. The windows include 2-light glazing bar casements and three gabled dormers, all of which are from the 20th century. There is a rebuilt ridge stack with white brick dressings located between the hall and parlour, and a 20th-century external stack at the left end. At the rear, there are four gabled dormers and a flat-roofed outshut from the parlour end. The right end has lower weatherboarded and rendered additions from the 20th century.

Inside, there is an original basket-arched doorhead at the rear of the cross passage, along with a mortice for a screen that is positioned on the lower side of the passage. This screen is from the 17th century and is panelled with broad muntins. The walls feature close studding and straight arched braces. The hall contains a stop-chamfered cross axial binding beam and a fireplace bressumer, although the framing has been altered. The parlour has a cross axial binding beam and jowled storey posts. The first-floor frame is concealed, and the roof was renewed in the 19th century.
