Description

Street Farm House is an early to mid-17th century farmhouse, altered in the 19th century. It is timber-framed and roughcast, with steeply pitched roofs covered in plain tiles and pantiles. The house originally comprised a large, three-cell lobby entry range with a stair bay to the rear. It is two storeys and has an attic. The front elevation is characterised by a triple gabled design. Towards the right is a lobby entrance with a six-panelled door set within a pilastered Doric doorcase. There are three-light glazing bar casements with hoodboards, and a two-light casement to the left. Gables are widely spaced over each cell, with brackets to the plates. A large axial ridge stack sits to the right of the centre, between the hall and parlour, featuring a recessed panel in the foot and moulded capping. A parlour end has architraved French windows. The left end has a brick plinth and a two-light louvred dairy window. The rear features a gable and a lean-to outshut behind the parlour, which has a slightly higher roof. A projecting gabled stair bay is positioned behind the stack and is slightly lower, while at the service end are two large external stacks with offsets, linked by a brick oven outshut with a further lean-to outshut, leading to a kitchen entrance. The interior has concealed framing, stop-chamfered cross axial binding beams. The parlour contains a bolection moulded fireplace surround, and the building includes an early cellar. The stair bay has a cornice, and the attic retains traces of original cyma mullioned windows, alongside some original cigar-shaped balusters. The roof is a double butt-purlin design with cambered collars. The first floor was not inspected.
