Description
Red House is a house dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof. The building has three bays and two storeys. On the ground floor, there is a central entrance with four stone steps leading up to a recessed, partially raised, six fielded panelled door. This door is surrounded by a semi-rounded reeded surround with a modillioned cornice, and it has a rectangular traceried fanlight above, all framed by a gauged brick flat arched head. Flanking the entrance are recessed tripartite glazing bar sashes, also with gauged brick flat arched heads. The first floor contains three similar sashes with four over eight panes. The house has an offset plinth and a modillioned eaves cornice. There are external end stacks with triple offsets, and on the right end, there is a ground floor dummy window opening. Towards the rear, there is a second stack in a 20th-century one-storey addition. The rear of the house has lower eaves and is whitewashed, featuring 20th-century casements and a canted bay window. Inside, there is a dogleg staircase with slat balusters, turned newel posts, and a moulded handrail.
