Description
St Mary's School, located at No 54 Earsham Street, is an 18th-century, three-storey building with a curved wing on the left side. It is constructed of red brick and features floor bands, a wide eaves soffit, and a slate roof. The building has a plinth and five sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, and three sash windows on the second floor, all with flush frames and flat arches. The entrance includes an eight-panel door set in a wooden case, adorned with fluted Doric pilasters, triglyphs, and a fret dentil cornice. The left wing of the building dates back to the 17th century. It was built by Giles Borrett, who previously owned it as Linden House. St Mary's School, along with No 56, the adjoining wing, the walls, and the ancillary building, as well as the bridge over the River Waveney, form a cohesive group.
