Description
Reade House is a house built in 1893 by J Saville in the Gothic Revival style. It features red brick with stone dressings and glazed tile decoration, topped with a plain tile roof. The building has an irregular plan, is two storeys high with attics, and has scattered fenestration. The main facade displays a 2:2 window arrangement with a right-hand gabled wing that projects forward. The ground floor has semicircular headed and pointed arched window openings with sashes that include glazed margins. There is a double door set back inside a porch. The gabled wing contains a pair of similar sashes beneath pointed arches, which are topped with a continuous hood mould and polychrome tiled tympanum. There is also a tympanum above a single attic window, which is dated 1893. The main range features first floor French windows behind a four-bay cast iron loggia that extends over the porch and aligns with the right-hand gabled wing. There are two projecting gabled dormers that are similarly glazed and decorated to match the gable windows. All windows are fitted with cast iron balconies, and the main gable and dormer gablets have trussed barge boards.
