Description

Numbers 1-4 Ancient Houses are a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered building, now converted into flats. It has a tiled roof and a ridge chimney stack. The building is two storeys high. The upper storey is jettied across the front, supported by exposed joists and curved brackets with shafts. The front displays exposed timber framing. The upper storey has three casement windows; two are 4-light shallow oriels, retaining remnants of moulded sills and frames. The ground storey features a 6-light bar and transom bay, set atop a deep brick plinth with moulded string courses. A flight of steps from the pavement leads to the entrance doorway.
