Description

Curtis Farmhouse is a timber-framed and plastered building dating from the 15th-16th centuries, with later 17th and modern additions. It has an L-shaped plan, with wings extending to the south-east and south-west. The roof is tiled, featuring a prominent 17th-century ridge chimney stack with saw-tooth shafts. The south-east wing likely originated as a 15th-16th century hall house, with a floor inserted and other alterations in the 17th century, and retains exposed timber framing. The south-west wing is of 17th-century origin, although it has been re-faced more recently. The farmhouse is two storeys high, and includes modern casement windows with leaded lights, along with one original window retaining diamond mullions. The interior reveals exposed timber framing and an old winder staircase, potentially with original solid risers concealed by modern casing. A modern addition is present on the north-east side, contributing to the building’s group value.
