Description

The Priory Chapel, now in ruins, is likely the remains of the conventual church. It has been restored and preserved as a farm building, featuring parts of the west end and nave. The Priory is believed to have been founded around 1218 by Thomas de Burgh as a hospital, and a few years later it was converted into a Priory for Austin Canons. It is dedicated to God, St Mary, and the Blessed St Anthony, and was endowed by Nesta de Cokefield, the widow of the founder. The site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
