Description
Newbury Farmhouse is a 15th to 16th century timber-framed and plastered building, originally the Manor House, and is now the remaining part of a larger house. It has been well restored and stands two storeys tall. The upper storey jetties out at the front, featuring a carved bressumer, curved brackets, carved capitals, and moulded shafts. The exposed joists rest on a partly carved wall plate. There are two ranges of casement windows with lattice leaded lights on the upper storey. The ground storey includes two 18th century three-light casements and two original windows with moulded mullions, a carved lintel, and a sill decorated with an oak leaf pattern. A fine original gabled porch projects from the front, with a bressumer also carved with the oak leaf pattern, supported by brackets, capitals, and shafts. The porch features a four-centred outer doorway with carved spandrels and lintel, and an inner boarded door with nailed fillets and similar carved spandrels and lintel. The bargeboards are a modern restoration. The roof is tiled and has a ridge chimney stack at the south end. Inside, the farmhouse boasts good features, including moulded beams and a fireplace lintel.
