Description
Potmere Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 17th century. It is timber framed with rendered wattle and daub infill and features a thatched roof. The building has a through passage plan and is one storey high with a dormer attic. The central door is flanked by two 18th-century casement windows, with an additional small casement window to the right. Above the door, there is a flat-topped pantiled dormer. The gabled roof has two ridge stacks located to the left and right of the center. A clay lump kitchen outshut was added in the 19th century. Originally, the farmhouse was an open hall house, but a late 17th-century upper floor insertion required the cutting of tie beams to create door openings. The timber frame is mostly intact, although the winder staircase has been removed. There is an intact brick fireplace on the ground floor, and the roof features staggered butt purlins with collars.
