Description

House. Built in the early 19th century, likely around 1803 when the ownership changed. The house is constructed of grey brick with a hipped slate roof. This is a large, former farmhouse of a Regency style, with a double-pile plan consisting of a main block linked to a two-storey service range to the north. The west-facing front has a chamfered plinth, pilasters on the corners, a plastered soffit to the eaves overhang, and gauged brick flat arches over three recessed upper sash windows with eight-over-eight panes of crown glass, and two similar ground floor windows with renewed eight-over-eight panes. A rectangular, pilastered central porch features an echinus moulding to the cornice and a triangular pediment. The east elevation is similar, with a door set within a round-headed recess and a stair window above it, set lower. Inside, there are moulded panelled double doors leading to the drawing room and dining room, and the dining room has a carved cornice of fruit and flowers, reportedly taken from Panshanger House.
