Description
The walls of the walled garden at Bayfordbury, located 300 meters to the west-southwest of the mansion, date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with knapped flint panels in the gate piers. The enclosure is large and symmetrical, featuring 3-meter-high walls that are elongated from east to west and have canted ends at both the east and west. A central wrought iron decorative gate is positioned between tall piers at the east end. There are three doors located in the center of the east, north, and south sides, each topped with a segmental arch that has a stone keyblock. The entrances are flanked by pairs of piers, which display recessed uncoursed knapped flintwork in large panels on both the inside and outside. The walls are finished with moulded copings and a plinth.
