Description
Pigots is an early 16th century moated manor house located on Elmdon High Street. The building features cross wings at the north and south ends and is two storeys high. The upper storeys of the cross wings are jettied on exposed joists, showcasing the timber-framing. The house has a three-window range of casements with lattice leaded lights. On the east side, there is a mid 17th century addition and a large external chimney stack with three shafts set diagonally, along with a panel displaying the initials T.M. and the date 1665. The roof is tiled and includes a central chimney stack with diagonally set shafts that have been rebuilt. Inside, the house retains many original features, such as a Tudor fireplace, exposed timber-framing ceiling beams and joists, and a bedroom in the south wing that has a cambered and braced tie beam. The Mead family occupied the house from 1554 to 1770, and the moat still surrounds the property.
