Description

Manuden Cottage is a group of six blocks of almshouse cottages built in 1857 by J. Thomas. The buildings are arranged as pairs, totaling Nos. 1 to 23 (odd) on The Street in Manuden. The upper storeys project slightly and are plastered, while the ground storey is constructed of red brick. Each block has a two-window range of casement windows. Some of the southern blocks retain original iron casements. The roofs are tiled, double-pitched, with two gabled dormers on the front and one at the rear. Two central chimney stacks are positioned on each ridge.
