Description

Park Farmhouse is an early 16th-century house located on Park Street (also known as West Street) in Thaxted. It is a timber-framed and plastered building with a red plain tile roof. A timber gnome is visible on the street front. The house has two storeys, attics, and cellars, and its plan is roughly L-shaped, with 17th-century extensions at the rear, north end. A long wall jetty features a moulded bressumer resting on curved brackets. The front elevation has a three-window range of double-hung sash windows with margins. Two ground-floor windows are 19th-century bay windows. There are two 6-panel doors. An original red brick chimney stack dates to the early 16th century. Original window heads remain at first-floor level, and a doorway leads to a room located above the original porch. Internally, portions of the timber frame are exposed. The building is of group value, reflecting its historical significance.
