Description

The Gatehouse is a 16th-century timber-framed house with cross wings at the north and south ends. It is said to stand on the site of a 13th-century house belonging to the Bishop of Ely, who was Lord of the Manor. The cross wings are two stories high with attics, while the central hall block is one story high with attics. The ground storey of the house exhibits exposed timber framing. A modern doorway has been inserted. The roof is tiled, using old tiles, and features a central chimney stack with two diagonally-set shafts and two gabled dormers on the centre block, one large and one small.
