Description

Bloomfields Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century and later. It is built with a timber frame and plaster, and has red plain tiled roofs with double gables facing the front. There are two chimney stacks on the left range and one on the right range. The house is two storeys high, with a two-window front featuring small-paned vertically sliding sash windows with moulded surrounds and segmental heads finished with metal coping. A central gabled porch has a segmental head. Inside the left range, stop-chamfered bridging joists and heavy ceiling beams are visible. Henry Bloomfield farmed at the property in 1796, as documented by F.H. Erith in "Ardleigh in 1796" (1978).
