Description
Ridgnall is a 16th century house located on Church Street in Great Horkesley. It is timber framed and consists of two storeys arranged in a T-plan. It is unclear if both parts of the building are from the same period. The east-west range has been heavily renovated and features a plastered wall and a peg-tiled roof that is ridged and gabled, with a small gable facing south. The south front has pairs of small-paned hornless sash windows, with one pair of round-headed windows positioned centrally at stair height. There is a large bay window at the east end of the south front on the ground floor, and the building has three red brick chimney stacks. The stem of the T is a two-bay range that includes roll-moulded joists, heavily jowled posts, and halved scarfs with bridled butts.
